Stand Out And Give The Film Festivals What They Want!

Thinking of submitting your independent film to film festivals? Here are a few quick pointers from some of the top film festivals and organizations on what they are looking for and what makes films stand out.

• Films that have original and interesting storytelling and diverse voices
• Films that push the limits of style and narrative
• Good films with interesting points of view
• Well-written, original and compelling screenplays

These tips may seem like a no-brainer, but think about how many times you’ve seen the same storyline? They really want filmmakers who have a fresh view on storytelling and who truly think outside of the box.

If you are just starting out, film experts suggest starting with short films first then working your way into feature films. The reason for this is to keep your costs of film production low and also to network and create buzz around you before you move onto features. As far as short films and features films go, each festival has their own stipulations and preferences for each of those submissions so be sure to research your festivals of interest to make sure that you are in-line for what kind of material they are looking for.
